Overview
Occasionally, new versions of Android System WebView or Google Chrome (which also acts as a WebView provider) may cause unexpected behavior or display issues within our app. When this occurs, temporarily disabling automatic updates for WebView can help maintain stable performance until a compatible version is released.
⚠️ Important:
Only follow these steps if you’ve been advised to do so by our support team or if there is a known issue with WebView and our app. Disabling updates should be a temporary measure.
What is Android System WebView?
Android System WebView is a system component that allows Android apps to display web content. It’s updated through the Google Play Store just like other apps. Updates can sometimes introduce changes that conflict with how Opmetrix function.
Step-by-Step: How to Turn Off Automatic WebView Updates
Disable Auto-Update for Android System WebView
Open the Google Play Store app.
Search for Android System WebView.
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Uncheck the box labeled “Enable auto update.”
Restoring Automatic Updates
Once the issue is resolved, it’s important to turn automatic updates back on to keep your device secure and up to date:
Go back to the same Play Store page for WebView or Chrome.
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮).
Re-enable the checkbox for “Enable auto update.”
Additional Tips
Restart your device after disabling auto updates to ensure stability.
Once you've downgraded WebView, restart your Android device to apply changes.
Uninstall and reinstall the Opmetrix app from the Play Store.
If the app continues to show issues, contact our Support Team with your device model and Android version.
Summary
Disabling automatic updates for Android System WebView (or Google Chrome) can help mitigate temporary compatibility issues between the app and new WebView versions. Remember to re-enable updates after the issue is fixed to maintain device security and performance.
