Users are encountering one of the following errors:
⚠️ Problem Summary
Some Android users have reported seeing a “Lost Data” pop-up in the Opmetrix app. This message indicates that data stored on the device could not be synced to HQ (your main inventory system) and has unfortunately been lost.
This issue is related to Android System WebView, a core component that Opmetrix relies on to function properly.
🔍 What Is Android System WebView?
Android System WebView is a system component powered by Chrome that allows Android apps to display web content. Many modern apps, including Opmetrix, use it behind the scenes for screens, forms, syncing, and offline data storage.
❗ Why This Is Happening
Recent updates to Android System WebView (specifically version 137 and newer) have caused compatibility issues with the Opmetrix app. This may lead to local data being inaccessible or unrecoverable before it can sync to HQ.
✅ Temporary Workaround
To resolve this issue, you can revert Android System WebView to an earlier version using the Settings function in your device. This will restore compatibility while we work on a long-term fix in an upcoming Opmetrix release.
Important things to know before you start:
You can't pick a specific version: This method will take you back to the very first version of WebView that was on your device when you first got it.
Security Risk: Newer versions of WebView often have important security fixes. Going back to an older version can make your device a bit less safe.
Please also follow the steps to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
🛠️ Steps to Revert WebView
Open Settings in your Android device:
Select Apps
In the list that appears, select Android System WebView
Tap on the three-dot menu at the top right of the screen
Tap Uninstall updates. Your phone will ask you to confirm. Say OK or Confirm.
🛠️ To prevent the issue from reoccurring
Open Play Store
Search for Google Chrome and open (not Update or Install) it
Tap the three-dot menu, and uncheck "Enable auto update."
📌 Important Notes
NOTE: Frequent syncing is still required. We recommend syncing after each transaction to avoid data loss.
This is a temporary workaround while we finalise a more robust fix in an upcoming app release.
When the fix is released, each device will need 'auto update' to be re-enabled for Chrome.
Unfortunately, any unsynced data already lost cannot be recovered from the device.
Please contact the Opmetrix Support team if you require assistance with syncing or confirming device configuration.
